What are you guys doing with "crash bar"

I found a pic of mine before the skid and also before my lift so it's less obvious. This angle is slightly elevated so you can't see the gap that is there between the crash bar and the bumper, but it should give you an idea.

OK now I'm with you. I had to get off mobile and go to the computer. I haven't taken the stock bumper apart yet but I see the issue with your pictures. Thanks for the heads up.

That'll make you want to keep it if it worked that good. I like the idea of using it as the lead edge of your skid. Might even could but a bend on front edge of skid to make it look better and even give it some structural strength.

lol...you're right about that...if not a tad more expensive.
I can't remember what it is actually called (not a crash bar) but it is similar to "compliance" cross member. This leads me to believe it meets federal height regulations.

Probably meets guidelines when stock but that kinda goes out the window as soon as the mod bug bites and the Jeep starts rising. My bug bit down and just keeps biting harder everyday...probably doesn't help that I stay on this enabler forum either lol.

If you look at the first pic cathoula posted above, you can see the crash bar. It hangs down below and behind the bumper. His has a skid on it. When you put on an aftermarket bumper (or build one) the bar usually hangs lower than the bumper and is quite ugly. A lot of guys do cut them off without a problem.

Other views with my type of bumper w/o skid.
