Default When to reprogram?

Replaced wheels and tires a few months back, and the Chrysler service guy recommended I reprogram for the larger diameter and extra wheel weight.*

I went from stock 255 75 17 SRAs to 285 70 17 Duratracs and Tracker wheels.

Do I really need to reprogram? What's the best way to do that? I'm certainly not paying the dealership to do it, they try to rip me of every time I go in there.

I did notice my mpgs took a hit of about 4mpg. From 20 to 16 mpg. I figured that was normal and to be expected. Could I get some of that back by reprogramming?

Huh!? 255 75 17 and 270 70 17 are almost the same diameter....nothing noticeable.

Its harder to calculate mpgs if you havent programmed the computer for larger tires. Cause the spedo will be off

x2 maybe he meant 285/70-17 which is enough to make a small difference.

I went from the stock steel 16s to a set of "S" alloys and 17s, and the speedo was off by a noticeable amount. The dealer could reprogram it, but I got a Flashcal and did it myself. Plus, no more reprogramming if I change sizes.

Why would someone have to reprogram for heavier/lighter tires?? I know it affects the ride quality and mpg but I don't see where it should affect the speedo.

If you do decide to reprogram you can use the Superchips Flashcal. This is allow you to adjust for the tire size and a few other things. Let me know if you have any specific questions or if you'd like a quote!
