Default Aussie moved to NorCal, just bought a spanking new Rubicon! What next?

G'day,

Just a couple of months ago I moved to the SF Bay Area from Australia for work. I bid farewell to my beloved Land Cruiser and once settled stateside, decided on a Rubicon Unlimited. I want to modify it obviously - but first I want to see what this thing can do in stock form. Problem is, I have no idea where to try it out, seems all the forests around here are only for hiking such a waste! Hopefully I can find somewhere to get the Jeep dirty this weekend - I'm having withdrawals.....

Any words of wisdom as I begin life with a JK?

Thanks!

I'm surprised that nobody has replied back yet. I'm 3000 miles away, so I'm of no help to you. I'm sure you'll get replies soon. You'll love the jeep by the way

I'm in Colorado, but have the excellent trail guides from Funtreks.com for Colorado, Moab, and Arizona. They make one for California too,

4x4 and SUV Books : Guide to California Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails Cover Price: $34.95

Pick that up and start doing some research. Then hang out in the NorCal forum on this site and find people to go with.

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum. You got the right idea seeing what that bad boy will do first before modifying. Lol.

Welcome! Maybe try out some OHV parks like Hollister or Prairie City. I just ran Pony Express Trail off hwy 50 this past Saturday and it was well spent couple of hours.

Welcome to NorCal! Slickrock up highway 4 is an excellent trail for a stock Rubicon. You just have to be OK with banging skid plates and possibly the Rubi Rocker guards on the sides.
