I keep hearing the stories of the "cliff" where they lowered the wagons by rope from butchered cattle.

Where exactly is this cliff? It's seems to be the staple of the trail but I have no idea where it is - but I should.

Can someone shed some light? I plan on running the trail one more time before it closes for the season and I'd love to see it. I'll even post some pics if someone can point me in the right direction.

I must have missed that part too. I found the trail to be some what boring and 2wd got the job done for 90% of the trip. I have more fun at Evans creak.

There is a wooden sign by it as to which part I can remember. It's been about three years since I have been on that part of the trail.

It's not part of the jeep trail. If I remember correctly, when you are coming up FS70 road on the west side, it's on the right, just before you take the left at the Y to go to the start of the lower part of the jeep trail. I haven't been to it since I was little, but if I remember right, we parked at the Y and walked back to it. Was only about 10' from the road.

I put a red x where it should be if I remember correctly.

The red X should be on the dashed line which is the trail (hiker only) down to their trailhead. You pass the trailhead last road on the right coming up the paved FR70. You need a NW forest pass to park there.

Ok thanks - I'll see if I can find it. I hear story's from some of the old timers how the cliff used to be part of the trail back in the 70's. Must been before they closed the very lower part of the trail.

It certainly isn't a technical trail - though the lower section on the west side can be a challenge if the conditions are right.
It's just a cool trail and the history of it makes it a very special trail here in the NW. Great scenic trail for the family and mild group runs.
The key is to run it right before it closes and hope there's a foot of fresh snow :-)

Yup - it was on the dashed line (trail) not too far off of fr70 just before the turn off like you said.

Very cool - couldn't really get a picture to share. Maybe from the bottom but I wasn't about to go down it :-)

Awesome. Did you go yesterday? I almost talked my wife into going up there yesterday. She didn't want to go in the rain though.
