Not really. It's cheaper than a weekend in Vegas. It's cheaper than an sye kit. It's cheaper than a ps4. It's less expensive than an iPhone. It's less expensive than a torque wrench... If 300 bucks is "rich" to you you might be a redneck.

The driver fee's are inline but not the passenger fee's. I have done several of JJUSA events, while they are fun but they are costly.
