One thing I either missed, or feel is missing from this discusion is this. It seems as though the main concern and comments are in regards to the Sprintex vs the Ripp and the longevity and dependablility of both and the amount of power they put out at the low end. I am fairly confident that neither (and extremely confident in the RIPP because it has been proven) will leave me stranded in the middle of nowhere because the engine exploded. That being said, I actually feel as though the lack of power increases at the low end by Ripp are a PLUS. I feel as though the weak points of the drive train are going to be anywhere other than the engine when I am out crawling over rocks or chasing after pigges in the Jeep. With this thought process the last thing I need is 50% more power being directed to my axles when I am simply trying to crawl over an obstacle. I have yet to be on a trail and see someone's engine fail, but I have seen numerous drive shafts bust or axles twist and almost every one of them was when someone got a bit to heavy on the throttle.

I agree the Ripp is best on the streets, although it appears to be great on the trails as well (from what I have heard and seen). My number one concern is not breaking down in the middle of nowhere, and for good reason. I was recently in the middle of nowhere and had a hunting accident in which I was shot multiple times (I am not wanting to get into this on this thread) and we had to RACE to meet EMS and a Helicopter about 35 miles from where we were. So again, I don't want to break anything and I feel as though the stock 3.8 put in 4 low has all the power you need below the 2000-2500 RPM range when the RIPP really kicks in. On the highway I never see below 2000-2500 RPM and this is where the 3.8 is severly lacking.

Just my thoughts...FLAME AWAY!!!

edit...I am now going back to read the rest of the thread

Don't rule out the Avenger SuperCharger. It has alot of power as well. 50% more power with 8 pounds of boost.

Wow. Glad yer ok. Would love to here that hunting story sometime.. But you are right. I have never heard of any of these 3.8L just exploding and dying because of SC or TC. They usually die because of motor bearings or what's ever they are called. And also. Is my jeep the only Jeep that doesn't see a lot of time where it is crushing at 2k+ RPMs 0.o hmm.. Maybe it's the way I drive :o

you may want to read the few pages you missed....

As pointed out by some other forum members, all the new SC comming out for stock OEM engines are positive displacment blowers like the Sprintex unit. Most engine damage and problems are casused by higher reving RPM's, not low in tq.

on a personal note, I was at a stop sign and needed to punch it to get to the other side, as cross traffic was heavy and did not stop. Half way accross the intersection, about 2500 RPM, the tq finally starts to kick in the the fat JK finally starts to move... this is not going to work for me. i want to hit the gas, and thoes tires MOVE... and its a Sprintex styly SC that has this capability. if im on the side of a mountian, i want to hit the gas peddle and feel some power... not just make noise to 2500rpm...

Her is my Sprintex build thread,,, I will recieve the unit in the next 4 weeks i have been told...

Follow along with me for the instalation and dyno results!

The RIPP SC does produce extra power right from idle. Mine is certainly peppier than stock in the low RPM's. However, when you hit 2500 RPM's, ...HOLD ON! Most of the time, I'm giving it 1/4-1/2 throttle, and the power produced by the RIPP SC is way more than stock. So, to sum it up, the RIPP SC does give extra low-end grunt, but it really shines when revved like this engine likes to be revved. If you are in 4-LO, your RPM's are going to be higher than in 2WD, so the RIPP SC is going to be available when you want it and need it. I'll give you an example of the idle power of the RIPP SC. I was in 4-LO, in reverse, at IDLE, and I was going UP-HILL....backwards up a hill with my foot off the gas!! Needless to say, it freaked me out for a moment. LOL

Installed RIPP stage 2 on my jeep a couple weeks ago and I love!! Very impressed with the power and much cheaper than a HEMI

Awsome!!! I thought I was settled on a 4bt or the crd liberty diesel bit its just so expensive to do both of those swaps so now I'm back at square one. Would u say you have enough torque ? I know it is based on gear and tires and all that but overall would u say the amount of torque you get from the ripp SC is enough ?
