Dana 30 axle hub nut size...36mm vs 35mm.

In working on my front axle I noticed that my 36mm hub nut socket fits pretty loosely on the hub nut. Not wanting to round any edges on the nut I went out and bought another 36mm for comparison and a 35mm nut socket. The other 36mm also fit loosely while the 35mm fit tightly, almost perfectly on the axle hub nut.

Is there supposed to be play between the socket and nut? I would not think so. The hub nut does not already have rounded edges on it either. The 35mm is just a better fit.

Anyone else notice this? I am planing on keeping the 35mm and using it instead of the 36mm.

Comments?

same here. In fact, I went through the exact same thing. I thought I was missing something at first but the 35 just fit better so thats what I kept.

I bought a 36 to do my ball joints a month back. Ended up just tapping on a 35 lightly with a hammer and it worked just fine.

I was kind of pissed, fifteen bucks for a socket I didn't even use. But it is still in the toolbox. Never know when the use will come

Keep it around to help with an axle u joint repair while on the trail.
