Dumb Question

self destruct warning lamp.
I'm downloading YOUR owners manual for free from the Jeep website...
(and no, the Jeep website did not used to be this helpful!)

Here's your answer.

17. Sentry Key/Security Alarm Indicator Light — If
Equipped
Refer to “Sentry Key Immobilizer System” or “Vehicle
Security Alarm” in Section 2 of this manual.

:rock:I rock!

Bucko 12-19-2011 03:55 AM

page 16.
The Sentry Key Immobilizer System does not need to be
armed or activated. Operation of the system is automatic
regardless of whether or not the vehicle is locked or
unlocked. During normal operation, the “Security Alarm
System Indicator Light” will come on for 3 seconds
immediately after the ignition switch is turned on for a
bulb check. Afterwards, if the bulb remains on, this
indicates a malfunction in the electronics. If the bulb
begins to flash immediately after the ignition switch is
turned on, this indicates that an invalid key is being used
to start the vehicle. Both of these conditions will result in
the engine being shut down after 2 seconds of running.
Keep in mind that a key which has not been programmed
is also considered an invalid key even if it is cut to fit the
ignition for that vehicle.
If the “Security Alarm System Indicator Light” comes on
during normal vehicle operation (it has been running for
longer than 10 seconds) a fault has been detected in the
electronics and the vehicle should be serviced as soon as
possible.

*From me*
Make sure you don't have any carbon fiber or copper as in a keychain or anything like that. These two items do really well at blocking RF and like frequencies.

This happened once in my old Grand Cherokee. It shut off after 2 seconds of running but never happened again. I dont know if there is a battery in the transponder that can go bad or what ???

This has happened to me recently too. The dealer wasn't able to retrieve any errors or codes from the Jeep. They said that the key may be going bad and to replace it soon. If the key goes bad, the Jeep won't start.

Good luck.

Just edited my last post.

I don't know anything techinical about the transponder in the key but i wouldnt want to get stranded because of something THAT stupid. It freaked me out but never happened after that (one other tiny reason to justify me buying my JK, lol).
