We were mudding on my grandfather's land that I have permission to hunt and wheel on. We had been out for maybe 30 minutes and I was driving down my grandfather's logging road that is close to the property line. On our way back out to the main road, a deer hunter who was hunting the adjacent property stepped out from the the woods blocking the logging road. He was cussing up a storm and yelling we were screwing up his hunting. He had his rifle at port arms and never threatened or pointed it at us but it was still pretty spooky being in the middle of nowhere. The guy never calmed down and finally sulked back to their side of the property line. It ended up being the president of a hunting club who was leasing the neighboring property. I had my Glock and felt undergunned as hell.

If I am in a vehicle I have a gun on my person or within immediate reach, if I am out of my home I have a gun on my person, if I am in my home I have a gun in each room that is easily accessible for myself or the wife but out of reach of the kiddies.

You never want to have to shoot but if you do the first words out of your mouth to anyone is "I was in fear for my life". Open carry has worked really well for me while hiking in Va. I had one funny conversation with are very nice but opinionated couple on trail. The young lady asked me what caliber my glock 9mm was and then proceed to lecture me on how that was not going to stop a bear.
When I looked her very square in the eye and said in my best Clint Eastwood "it's not for bear", we said our goodbyes!

Proper Jeep rifle...12.5" barreled AR-15 at the ready. I can Be out the door with it ready to fire just as fast as I normally get out the door.
