Granted, these are european model JK's with their fugly front bumpers but if you look at their rear ends, you can clearly see they they are wearing CRD emblems!!






The worst part is, these things are clearly driving in the U.S. and by the landscape, I'd have to say on the I-15 somewhere between Barstow, CA and Las Vegas, NV.

Because we don't have the fuel. The clean diesel that is required by these engines will not fully filter into the US market until next year. You put high sulfer diesel into the new engines and they will have all kinds of problems.

On the PLUS side, once low sulfer fuels are common, the US could switch to a more sour crude oil for diesel production as the higher sulfer content will no longer be an issue because a step alrady has to be in place to remove sulfer. We could see Diesel prices drop below that of gasoline as the light sweet crude needed for gasoline production is the expensive stuff. The heavier sour crudes are a lot more plentiful and cheaper, and heating oil and diesel is easier to refine from that stock.

EXACTLY!! And, I should point out that by the look of the landscape, they are somewhere between California and Nevada. That's what makes me so man - I want one!! :sad:

JP magazine had an interesting take on the diesel. They brought up that the new "Blue-tec" 3.0 Mercedes diesel that's going in the 2007 Grand Cherokee's in the U.S. market is not any cleaner than the Liberty's now non-existent 2.8 CRD....... just that the emission standards for vehicles with a GVWR over 6,000 lbs. is less stringent.

They also mention that the Unlimited JK has a GVWR of 6,050 lbs. I would guess that a couple of factors will come into play for the 2008 model year and we will see a diesel Unlimited:
1) Previously mentioned low-sulphur fuels
2) Product cycle..... Jeep has a hit with the new JK, they could put mostly any motor in it and still sell well for '07........ now, for '08 they bring in a new diesel or the 4.7 V8 and they have another year of strong sales.

Just my $.02, I drove a 6-speed JK Unlimited the other day, and the power seems good, definitely felt smoother/better than any of my TJ/4.0/Manuals I've owned............ but how cool would the diesel or the 4.7 V8 be

there's actually a pretty big diesel market here in canada, and diesel itself fairly readily available. I really hope they think about bringing the crd to canadian soil.
