too much flex?

ok..feel free to laugh but is it possible to over flex and dislodge a spring?

yes it is possible, i have seen it with JK's that eather had no shock in a corner or too long of a shock.

Too long of a shock can allow the spring to flex too far though usually you'll hear (or see) your ABS or brake lines snap before that happens. The front spring has a bumpstop top and bottom inside the spring which would actually help keep the spring in postion insted of flying out if you were to flex far enough so that the spring is loose. The rear spring also usually has a retaining clip at the bottom which keeps the spring in position though the spring could 'walk' a bit under full flex.

This happened to one of the TJs on our trip this past weekend. Flexed to much, front spring popped out.



It sounded like a shotgun went off.

East fix guys. Make sure your springs have retainers installed at the bottom, front and rear.

On the Rubicon with the e-locker you can flip the swaybar discos and bend themif you overextend the front.
