Thumbs up Project-JK Arizona Moss Wash & Sleeping Princess Presidents Day Weekend Run 2010

Over Presidents Day Weekend 2010, we decided to head out to Laughlin, NV and do a run up the Moss Wash and Sleeping Princess Jeep Trail. Both trails are actually located in Arizona near the towns of Bullhead City and Kingman but, Laughlin is a lot more fun to stay at if ya know what I mean. Anyway, in addition to the SoCal crew you'd expect to see, we were also fortunate enough to have a couple of guys from the Silver State gang join us for the run and, here are a few pics from our trip. I hope you enjoy...

DAY 1 - MOSS WASH TRAIL

Meeting up at the Tropicana Express in Laughlin for our Moss Wash run...

At the trailhead getting ready to have some fun....

Moochie and gonegoannas airing down at the trailhead....

Bullfrog and toad working as a team to get disconnected....

Making a stop to scope out the first rockgarden on the trail....

Me climbing up and over the a set of boulders at the end of the obstacle....

gonegoannas taking a different line over the rocks....

Making my way up the second real obstacle on the trail which was a water fall...

Blonda starting her climb up....

gonegoannas from behind and futher up the falls....

Unfortunately, he got a bit high centered and needed a strap from blonda...

KenB1010 making it look easy with his new 37's....

mituk with his bald 35's struggled but was able to find a line dry enough to get him up....

randy james' girlfriend carefully making her way up the slick rock....

Pulling up to the amazing Gold King Mansion just as the sun went down...

Shot from the inside looking down the main hall....

Standing up by the Gold King Mine tailing looking back at the mansion....

Pushing past the tight brush and heading up the mountian, we found ourselves wheeling in some deep virgin snow....

Rather than finish up the trail at night and in the snow, we decided to take an escape route that hooks up to the Hualapi trail and call it a day....

As luck would have it, we quickly found ourselves on a narrow shelf road and in even deeper snow....

Backing up and trying a different route, we found ourselves going up steep climbs and snow that was starting to ice over....

Unfortunately, this prooved to be too much for a few of the JK's in our group and so, at about 8:30 pm, we decided to just head back out the way we came. On the way down, Blonda got high centered on the water falls and needed a strap....

Me coming down the falls....

Back on pavement, we aired up and made a stop to top off our tanks....

Believe me, there are a ton more pics that were taken on this trip and if you'd like to see them now, simply click on the link below:

A BIG thanks goes out to randy james and chicken corners for coming out from Vegas and playing with us.

Thumbs up DAY 2 - Sleeping Princess Presidents Day Weekend Run 2010

DAY 2 - SLEEPING PRINCESS TRAIL

For Day 2 of our Presidents Day Weekend Run 2010, we decided to do something a bit closer and so we made our way up to the Sleeping Princess Trail. Here are some pics from our trip:

Meeting up in the morning on top of the Tropicana Express parking garage...

At the trailhead getting ready to have some fun....

mituk airing down at the trailhead....

Pulling onto the Sleeping Princess trail....

Taking a walk down the Bob Miller Extension to get a feel for what's in store for us....

Standing at the edge of a very tall vertical waterfall....

View down and out across the wash below were the water disappeared into the sand...

The drop into the Bob Miller Extension is a steep one and so Blonda hangs her head out the window to help sm_rubi make his way down....

Here's Moochie dropping in....

Getting a little flex as we made our way into the canyon....

Further up the canyon, the trail leans you real close up into the side of the wall...

Making our way up to the waterfalls....

Everyone climbing up the first waterfall to get a good view of the fun....

KenB1010 walking up the falls with ease....

sm_rubi coming up a great line....

Moochie slipped off his line and found himself a bit too far over to the right....

Unfortunately, this caused his passenger side sway bar link to over extend and it got bent on the drag link....

gonegoannas trying out a different line up....

Even with bald tires, mituk was able to hammer his way up....

Off Road Evolution walking up the falls like it was a boat ramp....

Moochie climbing his way up the 2nd waterfall...

WOLette making her way up the last waterfall....

TikiJK climbing out....

The Charles Wells book indicates that this point along the trail is a "dangerous tippy narrow shelf road". I call it a length of trail I'd prefer not to do again....

KenB1010 making a heroic attempt up a tough rock climb in boulder alley...

In the process of trying to get up, he pulls out a large boulder from the hillside and it gets in the way of him moving back. So, we move it out of the way by hand....

With some strategic rock stacking, he was able to climb up under his own power....

Moochie wasn't so lucky and so gonegoannas tried to give him a strap off....

When that didn't work out, sm_rubi came to the rescue and successfully strapped him out from the front....

Group shot on top of the ridge....

Watching the sun go down from the top of the mountain....

There are a ton more pics that were taken on this trip as well and if you'd like to see them now, simply click on the link below:

Man that was a couple of epic runs! Loved the snow (sorry ladies) it proved to be a real adventure and one we won't soon forget! It was great meeting some of our JK friends in Nevada (chicken corners & Randy James) thanks for coming out it's always fun meeting forum members from other states!

For those of you that couldn't make it you really missed a great run...it was so fun many of us are hoping this becomes an annual run...WOL did you get that subtle hint

yeah, i can't even imagine what it's like to wheel in your neck of the woods. as far as off camber stuff goes, moby dick is 88" wide and as low as you can go even with 40" tires. for the most part, it never really feels too bad when off camber but on this section of trail... i was definitely puckering up.
