Default MyGIG Map Database Version

I’m thinking it’s about time for me to contemplate updating the map in my MyGIG unit. Before I do it I want to make sure the map is current (if it isn’t then I won’t bother). I did a little searching and found out how to decode the Database Version number.

To find out the database in your unit you press the MENU hard key, then the SYSTEM SETUP soft key, then the SYSTEM INFORMATION soft key and the database version is the number under DATABASE. For Example RS6 – N 106 0642. This version can be decoded as follows: N stands for North America. 106 is the end first quarter of 2006 (when we NAVTEQ put out the map), 0642 is the 42nd week of 2006 (when the database was qualified to be released to the marketplace.).

So it turns out my ’08 has a map that was developed in 2006.

I was hoping others could check their database number and post it here so we could see the various map versions that are out there.

As a side note, Navteq has an online map (navteq.com) that may show what’s on the current map they sell (I have to verify with them). The on-line map does show a lot of updates in the area where I live.

Info on database so far:

N 106 0642: (2006, 1st quarter) - Early 2008 MyGIG
N 208 0905: (2008, 2nd quarter) - 2009
N 209 1004: (2009, 2nd quarter) - Available when purchased at Navteq 12/6/10
N 210 1051: (2010, 2nd quarter) - V3.4.0, started shipping from Navteq April 2011

I already received two upgrade disks, by mail from navteq......i just can not see paying $200....if they lowered the price by half i would possibly consider it.

I'm with you on that. No way I'm going to fork over $200 every year, but I would spend $50 every year, so if the latest maps are 2010 or better I'll be getting a 4 year update for $200 (or $50 a year), and wait until the 2014 update for my next one…

BTW - without installing it, can you search the disk and see if you can find the database version number in there somewhere?

Yeah, I bet the Garmin based units will be like the handheld units - a lot cheaper than Navteq!

I got some version information from Navteq today and added it to the first post.

They also said if you want to see what's in the map you need to go to the Dealer. I'll have to ask them (this is thought email) if the maps in the Garmin based MyGIGs are the same as the older models.

Question: My version of the MyGIG unit is based on Harmon Becker hardware and the newer units are based on Garmin hardware. Do both units use your maps? In other words, if I go the dealership and look at the MyGIG units in a 2011 Wrangler (Garmin based) will they be the same as your N209 1004 maps?

Navteq: At this time we have not received any information regarding the 2011 Jeep Wrangler so we would not be able to answer your question. The latest vehicle that we have been informed about that uses the MyGIG system would be the 2010 Jeep Wrangler, so you could always check that model for the mapping information.

Do you know what you had before the update? Did you get some good updates on the map?
