So, I know the Dynomax system is a straight forward and simple install, however, I thought I would share what I did this afternoon for those who would like a visual and a simple write up of how to install the Rockcrawler Exhaust for the 4 door JK. Tool requirements are very minimal, a 15mm wrench and some WD40. I did end up using my breaker bar as pry bar which I will explain later.

Here is what we are working with...


First step is to lubricate all the rubber isolators that are holding the exhaust, as well as, the exhaust clamps on the OEM pipe.


Next, loosen the two exhaust clamps behind the catalytic converter and the one used to attach the muffler.


Then, remove the metal rod hangers from the rubber isolators (there are 4). These are definitely a pain in the ass to remove, I used my breaker bar as a pry bar for leverage.

After all hangers are removed, I found it easier to wiggle the muffler off first, then disconnect the middle section of the pipe. I was left with this to work with...


The next step was to slip on one of the 2 1/2" clamps provided and install the front intermediate pipe. Insert the rod hanger into the rubber isolator and slightly tighten the clamp.


Take the muffler and one of the larger 2 1/2" band clamps and attach it to the front intermediate pipe and slightly tighten to hold in place.


Do the same for the tailpipe, installing it into the outlet side of the muffler and slightly tightening the clamp. Be sure to insert the metal rod hangers into the isolators.



Finally, instal the tip on the outlet of the tailpipe, if desired.

At this point all there is left to do is to tighten all the clamps and aligning the system components beginning at the inlet.

I am very satisfied with the Dynomax system. Sounds great!

So I just traded my original project 2008 Sahara Unlimited in for a 2012 Rubicon Unlimited. I swapped all my mods over to the Rubi including the Dynomax exhaust.

Here are a few pictures and thoughts about the Rock Crawler with the 3.6L

The sound is much louder and higher pitched compared to the 3.8L. Yes, there is a drone all the way through 6th gear but that doesn't bother me. However, I do expect the sound to change as the engine gets broken in, I don't even have 200mi on her yet. I will try to keep this updated as thing get broken in.

Now for the fit of the exhaust, it is much tighter and more snug to the tub and frame. In addition, the first rubber isolator for the exhaust hanger has been moved about 3 inches to the back so the exhaust losses a little support from the frame but is still very secure (more secure than my 08'). As you an see in the pictures the muffler and last section have little clearance from the tub, cross members and come pretty close to the spring perch.

Nice pictures and instructions. I've got a full compliment of skid plates and have had vibration issues with the stock exhaust. Does this one provide more clearance than your stock one did?

Clearance is the same because it uses the OEM isolators. The pipes hug the driver side frame and the muffler mounts in the middle of the frame rail.

Is there any "drone" going down the freeway?

I did not have to relocate the evap can. The exhaust took the same lines as the OEM.

I haven't noticed any drone at highway speeds when cruising, just a nice sound during acceleration. There is a significant sound difference between the stock exhaust. This system sounds great, nice deep and throaty.

As you mentioned the toughest part can be the hangers and some bolts that get stubborn.

Thanks for the write up. Well done.
