Tire help. 285/75/17

trying to look at tires now, but these numbers are confusing me bad. i always thought the first numer was height ...

i have 285/75 /17 toyo mt on 08 jku on stock rims with 1.5 spacers and a 2.5 tf coil lift with a 1"puck now .thay are 33"actual hight.if you run a 2" leveling kit and disconnect the sway bar your tires will rub bad on your finders been there done that.you need to install bump stops to keep tires out of finders and 1.5 wheel spacer but i ran these tires on stock rims with tf leveling kit 2" up front and 1" in back for a while.your tires will rub at full lock .you cant go wrong with these tires thay are great on and off road just keep them balanced and rotated i have 37k on them now and over half the tread left.

Metric tire sizes are pretty weird, the 75 is acutally not a height but an aspect ratio of sidewall height vs width. everything factors in even rim size
a 285/75/16 is a 32.83
a 285/75/17 is a 33.83
equivalent tire sizes for the 285/75/17 are like 295/75/16 or a 265/75/18(a little skinnier but almost the same height)so you can see the relationship there.
wikipedia has a good explanation of how it works but I don't like numbers enough to read it all.

I am running 285/75R17 KM2s on my 12 JKU and they work great with a leveling kit. I also added flat fenders but wouldn't need to unless disconnected. I started with these pre leveling kit and they were a very tight fit. You can see pictures in my profile. This size tire has better road manners than my 35x12.5R17s I had on my 08.

No wheel spacers. Just stock Moab wheels and 285/75R17 BFG km2 tires and the work great. No rub at all. Tires measure about 33.5 mounted. The BFG 35s measure about a half inch taller.
