Grinding noise on start up?

a bad oil filter is the likely suspect, as posted above.
You can turn the key to "on" and wait for the cycle of lights to stop. Then start the engine while watching for the little red oil can lamp. It will flash momentarily if there is no oil pressure.
Another, less common issue that used to be reported was a grinding that happened on start-up associated with the AC compressor. Be sure the AC button is off and also be sure the mode selector is not selecting (or partially selecting) the defrost option. Selecting defrost uses the AC whether or not the AC is turned on via the button.
I seem to remember an issue long ago with some power steering pumps grinding on cold start ups, too.
