Cool Thanks

D31,

Thanks for the photos ! Where did you route the coax through the firewall into the cabin?

I routed mine through a huge rubber grommet in the passenger footwell. Cut my own hole in it. the engine side is easier to access if you remove the fender, but it is not necessary.

I did mine through the driver's side firewall. Same location I routed the main harness for my sPOD. Funny how we both took the long route

Point of entry per sPOD's directions are different from auto's to manuals.

To those who are running this front cowl mount antenna:

Are you running the 18' coax cable length? If so, where are you stuffing the extra length?

I am leaning toward a 2' firestik on a cowl mount over a 3' firestik on the tailgate. I don't want to have to remove the antenna to pull it in the garage. To be able to leave it in place I can only stick up past the roof a few inches.

Thanks for your help.

yes on the 18'...

rolled up **in a circle of about 4-5 inches in diameter**, then stuffed behind the storage tray that is beneath the AC controls, etc. on the very bottom.....right behind the center console. There's tons of room.

I even had enough room to stuff this back there in addition to the coax slack...

Where are you mounting your Yaesu? Is that an 8900? My BF plopped a spare 8900 on my lap and said go to it. More concerned with weather than theft. I was debating mounting the body in an ammo can and running the faceplate to the dash so I could remove it (leave it at basecamp, another rig, etc.) and have direct line to the battery I could plug it into, or run off a little matching ammo can power pack I built.

Yeah it's the 8900r. It's soon to be mounted in this bad boy for now...

...but I also looked at these installs for other possibilities should I plan to run the face-plate separately....

I'm using a Diamond foldable quad band antenna mounted to Diamond dual axis mount which is mounted to the tailgate. Will probably throw in an inline tuner at some point but working on my QRP/bug-out rig right now with the ft-817nd.

Not my pic but you get the idea. Axle upgrades will have to wait. Comms are priority right now...

I mounted my Yaesu FT-8800R to a flat metal plate under the front passenger seat, held on by binder clips! Ran the remote head unit cable up and across a channel in the roof frame accessible with the freedom tops off. Then attached it to the top of my visor with velcro.

Puts the head unit in the perfect place for visibility and operation with the visor up. If I need the visor down I just put it down.

I know this is an old thread but I like your mount. I checked your link but don't see the one you show. Can you offer any more info?
