I use Diamond mount and Antenna but I have a FT7900 dual band radio.
Diamond makes a lip mount so you can put it up by the hood. I like it in the back where it is protected from brush (60.00 an antenna so...)
Stay away from 1/4 wave antennas on a Jeep not enough ground plane, use either a 1/2 wave or 5/8th wave antenna.
I've talked 40+ miles on simplex with my setup and I've hit repeaters 100 mile away.

VHF 146.xxx
Maybe not quit a 100 miles as the crow flies but this pretty easy to do every time.

I also use a short (~18 inch) dual band antenna mounted on the back of the Jeep so it can be parked in the garage (and it just barely clears the garage door frame). I also keep a larger 1/2 wave dual band antenna in the Jeep, then for longer excursions I swap out the antennas for better communication and use the stubby for around town.
