Hey guys. Got everything setup in my '16 JKU. Now need to wire the cb. Can anyone help me out. I've read some threads but most were for '07 to '12. Anyone know about the '16's ? I want it to power off like everything else when I take the key out. Here's a shot of the fuse panel. Anything under the dash would be best. The wires that came with the radio are only 5 feet long and my radio is mounted over the rear view mirror. Click image for larger version

See if your power outlet is switched. On my 2008 I have two 12V plugs, one switched one always hot so your power receptacle may be switched.

I ran my power switch to the 12v outlet. I will tell you that getting power from there will cause the CB to reset to Ch1 every time.

I would recommend a constant 12V power source. That's the way I like to do all my ham radios. Just add an inline fuse right off the battery and you're good. Alternatively, you could still come off the battery but add a relay the is controlled by key on using a fuse tap. I did that for my aftermarket heated seat covers.

Seems the right way to do will be straight to the battery. Is it the fact it's connected to the battery or is it just having a constant source of juice? I don't wanna have static or other issues if I tap into constant source ie battery or constant juice from one of the 12v plugs. Also is it ok if I crimp on wires to extend the factory cb wires which will be too short if I go straight to the battery?

Straight to the battery is best, for both positive (with a fuse) and negative. It decreases the likelihood of interference. Yes you can extend the wires to do so, just make sure you use at least the same gauge or thicker (lower gauge numerically) wire and have no exposed sections. Heat shrink can help with that. Make sure you shut it off when exiting. If convenience is more important than clarity, then a switched feed is your next best option.

As others suggested, straight to the battery is best for CB/ham gear. This can help greatly with interference from the vehicle into the radio and vice versa. Using a relay is fine if you really feel you gotta have the accessory / ignition switch cut-off. I've never bothered. These things draw such little power in receive mode, battery drain is not a real worry for a daily driver.

Not sure but it has something to do with radio remembering what channel it was on. Possible with the radio off there is still power going to support an internal memory.

Default remembering last channel set

My Cobra 18WX ST II comes with two (2) power leads. One Red & one Orange. It calls for the Red to be connected to an accessory fuse, and the Orange directly to the battery or other constant power source. The radio then turns off at ignition switch off, while the Orange lead allows it to remember the channel settings. I haven't mounted it my 2014 JKU yet, but in my old TJ, I wired it that way with the Red lead jumper-ed into the radio fuse (10A) under the dash. You can get a short jumper wire adapter at any auto store that allows for two fuses; one for the regular accessory (from which ever fuse you use) and one for a pass through to the CB. Does this help?
