Why are jeeps so god damn expensive??

I remember looking at a new LJ rubicon that was listed for under 30k back in the day, since then Chrysler went offshore for parts and assembly is done in Mexico. You'd figure this globalization would lower the price of jeeps, or at least stay constant?
Sorry for the rant, I would like to add a new jeep to the stable but I can't get past the sticker price of these new(arguably lower quality) jeeps.

Because people are paying that price. Would you drop the price of something you were selling when somebody was willing to pay your asking price. I won't buy a new jeep, too much money for too much plastic. But, I get it; plastic is light and need to meet federal regulations.

After buying my 2006 LJR new with window sticker at 32K, I was shocked at the window sticker of $38K on my new 2012 JKUR.
But a my 2012 JKUR is a lot more vehicle than my 2006. 4 doors, nicer interior, nicer ride, more powerful engine, better mpg, etc. A more sophisticated (and costly) design. Not to say that the 2006 wasn't great and a better size off road.
It is interesting that you can buy a lot of lower priced cars new for not a lot more money than you could in 2006. JK demand is huge the past few years since the Pentastar V6 and there is no competition. That's probably some of the difference.
I also just read that the $24K average new car cost in 2006 would be $28K in 2016 dollars.
