What Type of Oil
Getting ready to change the oil in my 09 JK. What types do you recommend. This vehicle is an everyday ride and most of is in the DC traffic.

5w-30 will work fine for you. I've got the same 3.8 and I run through DC usually monthly. I bought the jeep new and it's at 140k now on 5w-30 and the motor still does what it's supposed to do.

No, todays oils are of good quality. If you feel you get better protection by buying a specific brand or synthetic the pick your poison. I just buy what ever is on sale and use a quality filter.

BTW Thinking about changing the differential fluid as well. How many quarts does that take? I think it looks like about two? And do you recommend me taking the cover off and redoing it all?

It takes just shy of two. I pull the cover for an inspection of the gears. I found metal missing from my spiders on the most recent check so it's a good idea to check if you're high mileage or 2nd owner.

I'm the original owner and it has just over 60k. I've had the dealer change it before, I've never done it. I here there are always metal shavings in the oil.
