I've done this with an 80GB drive and am noticing some issues, music is fine, but it looks like there's a hard stop on how much music/pics you can copy at around 17GB, anyone else try this and have the same problem?

Empty, the disk shows as 63GB total, but 10GB in use, no idea why, i've examined the files on the drive, I'd be suprised if there was a GB worth.

Default MyGIG

I thought the MyGIG had a USB port?

why not just toss a external 300 gig in the glove box (or mounted somewhere) then run the USB via inside the dash?

bada-boom 300 gig MyGig?

no?

I don't have one, so I'm just asking.

But I'm all about tearing tech stuff open

I just built a Home Theater PC with a Blu-Ray drive and HDMI out!

But my Jeep only has a Garmin V in it for the trails....

I'm saving my pennies for a new Tahoe w/sat nav, but honestly I'd rather have a MyGig (which allows SIRIUS, vs GMs XM only model)

it doenst work that wya, the USB is only for file transfer, you have to play the media from the internal HD.

Yep
And for retarded crash tests,
they can't enable play from usb.
Since Chrysler won't be able to test with all usb keys, etc stuck in there.
Someone could get hurt, think of the children, etc etc.

I really hate gov't regs that only protect me from my own stupidity.
STUPID SHOULD have a chance to hurt.

If you buy from the dealer, it's about 1550$ for the radio.
Then like 30 for the gps antenna.
Do you already have sirius? If so, then you won't need the sirius antenna.
If you do the ebay route, make sure you get the mygig with a high speed can bus.

quick comment on the rip it to pieces part...
I got myself an ebay special, and when it got here, there was a slight rattle, so I did just that, I had it spread all across the kitchen. When I put it together, the rattle was gone, so I lucked out.

Back to the point though, removing the HD is VERY easy. There are a couple screws on the bottom of the radio, with a small door. After removing the door, the hard drive is sitting right there, ready for removal.

There is NO NEED to pull the system apart for this mod.

All that being said, I've yet to try to upgrade the HD, but its because I'm lazy, I just got the iPod adapter and use that instead... tons of music then, and I can take it with me.

If you look at the first post, he says that it is an ATA interface. Unless you get a SATA/ATA adapter and can fit it in there, it won't work. The connectors are physically and electrically different.
