Default Local San Diego trails

Looking for some easy to moderate trails within an hour of San Diego for the wife to start on. I have looked on alltrails and looks like there are a few near Julian. Any others I should be aware of? I know not all trails are on maps...

What kind of trails are you looking for? Truckhaven out by Salton Sea has pretty much everything you can ask for.

Just want to get her out in the dirt first. Was looking at boulder creek road near Julian. Then going to oriflamme and chariot canyons. Anyone been on those recently?

It would be wise to anticipate severe rutting and potential mud slide damage. Other than that sounds like alot of fun

Cool Don't Go Alone

If you are starting from RT 78, which is what I would recommend, expect Chariot Canyon to have erosion damage especially near the junction with Oriflamme Canyon. The Oriflamme Canyon trail can be a real pants wetter if your wife has a fear of heights as the trail is one Jeep wide with drop offs of 5oo' on the passenger's side and several hairpin turns. If you decide to make this run, make sure you have another experienced Jeeper with you who knows that trail. DO NOT GO ALONE. DF

Thanks for the heads up. Good to get recent real experience on a trail before going.

I might go check out that Otay Truck Trail this weekend, looks like it has some great view points.

I recently moved to San Diego. I say recently, but it's been a year. I started a restaurant, which takes all of my time. I haven't had much time to venture off, nor make many friends out here yet. With the time I can free up, I'd like to hit some trails. Isn't there a site where I can locate trails?
