Wow what an awesome thread. 1talljker, thanks for the google map. We did one of these on a mountain biking forum and it worked out great, it's so nice to see one with trails!

Default Sol-Cal Trails and Safty Tips

SAFETY TIPS THINGS YOU SHOULD DO !

CONTACT THE CLOSESS RANGER STATION TO YOUR TRAIL AND GET ALL INFO FOR THAT TRAIL AND TRAIL MAPS INCLUDING THAT RANGER STATIONS PHONE NUMBER.

Carry a cell phone.
With a full battery charge

File a Flight Plan.
Determine where you are going and when you plan to return. Be as specific as possible. Inform the ranger station and friends or relative and call them when you return.

Travel with another vehicle.
Your chances of getting stuck in the back-country are immensely reduced with two vehicles. If one vehicle breaks down, you have a back-up.

Know location of closest medical help and hospital.
Before you leave on any trip, check the location of the closest hospital or emergency facility in the area.

Carry extra maps.
The Automobile Club of Southern California has great maps with good backroad detail.

Carry extra food, water and clothing
Because of changing conditions california's backcountry is fragile and under constant assault by forces of nature and man.

Pack it In and Pack it Out
Clean up your mess as well as other's. I know we're not the (other's) mother, but if we want to keep the trails open and help the Ranger's have a good outlook on 4X4 peeps, it's a step we all have to take.

Not all GPS's are created equal.
Get a crossover or a good one that you can save map's too with different Datum.

Does anyone use MGRS (Military Grid Refrence System) besides me? Not a big fan of the Lat/Long.

Umm... I do for all intensive purposes, but when posting something up here I change it to lat/long since it is the "standard"...

Default Los Pinos shortcut

A small shortcut on the Los Pinos Road.

Begin at the bottom, located at 32.747476, -116.575423.

My old TJ would've had articulation, traction, and clearance problems. My new Rubicon, with both lockers engaged and the the swaybar disconnected, tractored right up. (I did get a small amount of desert pin-striping--nothing serious.)

I really shouldn't have attempted this shortcut alone...and I probably wouldn't have if the Los Pinos Lookout ranger station wasn't so close by.

I'm surprised, frankly, that my rubi made such short work of the hill. It's going to take some nerve to find the rubi's outer limits.
