We do not make a Gerry can mount for it. But anyone handy with a welder could probably fab one up.

I think its just personal preference. I can think of small reasons why one might prefer one versus the other, such as the ability to remove the spare tire without disconnecting and removing the license plate, or the simplicity of mounting Roto-Pax cans or a Jack, its easier to do with the external structure. But I think in the end it boils down to whether you like the look.

On another note; I'll be up at the shop this afternoon picking mine up, so maybe we can talk more about. Plus I've got a request from Frank (sm_rubi) to relay to you.
I think you'll be fine with that added weight with normal use. I might have said this before (if not here, on FB or one of the other forums) but this isn't the right carrier for those who are running The Hammers every weekend or driving their Jeep like its a wrecking ball. The tire carrier will hold the extra weight you describe with ease. Will it hold up to the momentum of all that weight if you're bouncing through the whoops at 80 MPH or if you come off a 4 foot ledge onto a hard stop? Probably not.

$980

Price and all of the product details are on our web page which I linked to in the original post. This isn't a "coming soon" thread, these are available now.

That is one sexy carrier! Coming off a rock and hitting the tire does worry me a tiny bit...
Dreaming of the day you guys make something like this:

I think that would make it even worse. With that hard skid under the tire, landing on a rock will be a lot more jarring than if the rubber tire landed on it. I'm not sure if I've said it here yet or if it was another forum but this probably isn't the right carrier for you if coming hard off of ledges is part of your normal wheeling. You should probably look at a bumper/frame-mounted tire carrier instead. But robsjeep9's idea looks like a pretty cool solution if you wanted to fab something like that up.

Trying to think of pros and cons of this carrier and your rear bumper with no carrier vs the new b2 you sell with tire swing. The pro I see is ability to haul more gear. The con I see is a lot of weight hanging further back from the frame which might effect handling a bit on high way. I am going with one or the other. Price wise it looks like they would came out about the same.

We're starting to see some customer-installed photos of these JK Body Mounted Tire Carriers now...

This one's from Jeff Yurk.

And a couple more from Jeff Yurk.

Here's a shot courtesy of Allan Tilley.

Here are a couple shots of Frank Castle's Jeep, shot and sent in by Vic Perz:

Vic gives us our first shot of this tire carrier installed with Poison Spyder Crusher Corners. Here's the tuning he had to do around the hinge cutouts on the passenger side corner to get it to fit. I know a couple folks have asked to see this and I said I'd post a pic as soon as we got one. Thanks again Vic.

Ryan Coleman installed his with what appear to be AEV corners, which are similar to our Crusher Corners in the hinge area so they required the same trimming:
