Default 08 JK oil leaks

Has anyone else had issues with oil leaks??
I have an 08 JK and it appears to have a rear main seal leak??!!
only has 1100 miles on it. Dealer put die in oil and said drive 400 miles and bring it back. The thought of a new jeep with less than 1500 miles on it makes me a little sick, if they repair it what else did they botch up and the factory.

It ain't the rear seal, it's the timing cover. There's a TSB out on it. I had the same problem, but mine looked like the oil pan. Here, read this: http://project-jk.com/jeep-jk-tsb-re...rface-porosity

Print it out and take it to the dealer. It took them four times to fix mine because they would not listen to me with a TSB in my hand. I finally demanded they replace the timing cover. They did. Whatdya know? It's fixed now.

Thanks for the info. Still feels kinda ***tty that the JEEP only has 100 miles on it with this.
Have you had any other issues with your jeep? How many miles do you have on it?

thanks

This has been a problem for a while...I haven't had it, but my hunting partner with a 2007 Sahara Unlimited had it ...turns out that the metal is porous in the timing cover, and he was leaking about 3 quarts every 3,000 miles, even though the dealership told him it was normal...he printed out the TSB and gave it to them...they claimed they didn't know about it...they replaced the timing cover and gasket, gave him a 7/100 guarantee for free and said they were sorry...waddya know!

A TSB will be fixed out of regular warranty. It's similar to a recall.

My Jeep has just rolled over 10K, by the way and has been completely flawless except for the timing cover, which WAS fixed.

The dealer would not fix the timing cover leak. due to being out of warranty.

That's not right. TSBs are supposed to outlast the warranty. You should try to get reimbursed for that. That sucks.

EDIT: I went back and read the TSB top to bottom and you are indeed correct. It says it will be repaired "within the provisions of the warranty." That frikkin sucks. I can remember when Chevrolet issued their HUGE ball joint TSB on the 88 through about 93 or so Chevy trucks. The mileage and time on that particular TSB had NO limitations. To my knowledge, they still have to honor it. Of course, being ball joints makes it a safety issue, so that could make the difference.
