Default 2008 OEM Top for a 2015?

Found an OEM top new in the box on Craigs list... other than the typical "make sure you get all of the parts" - any differences between the 2015 top (not premium) that I should be worried about?

no you should be fine.. the older pre 2010 tops attached different on the sides.. but you shouldn't have any issues.. does it come with the hardware ?

Yes - but he was not sure about the roll bar brackets. He is also asking $950, which as I look seems a bit much. Still shopping used and considering the bestop options. Ugh - so many choices and so little experience with them.

In my opinion $950 is way too much. I know the newer tops have a spring to keep the top tight. I don't think the 08s had it.

I found a barely used Bestop Supertop on Craigslist for $400 and he gave me a spiderweb shade.

You can find a good deal, just have to be the first to see it.

As far as the roll bar brackets go.. You can find them at the dealer.

Guess I will keep looking... thanks for the quick replies. I was starting to see that the $ was out of whack but it's good to get the confirmation. My JK is a whopping 5 days old and I was still hearing $1800 for a top from the dealer. Also appreciate the tid-bit about the spring. Any knowledge will be helpful in the buyer beware realm of use stuff... thanks all.

yeah i agree the price is high.. the premium tops seem to go for around that much but the regular tops i see on craigslist around here all the time for around 400 - 500 newer 2012 + tops.. keep looking im sure one will pop up for a lot less.

yeah the 2010 +tops are easier to put up/down..because you dont have to mess with attaching it to the side of the door surrounds, so i would shoot for a newer top and yes the newer 2012 top are spring loaded so they are even easier to put up.. also check out a spiderweb shade they are awesome to use when the top is down to keep from getting sun burnt..

I have an 08 JKU and the original top was a pain. With the older versions you have to tuck the top into the door surrounds all the way around. The 2010 and newer versions have cable running down the sides that keep it tight making it much simpler to open and close and you don't need to circle the Jeep tucking everything in. The 2012 and newer versions also have spring assist making it even easier. Just to give you an idea, I just bought a complete 2012 JKU top on Craigslist for $275. Granted it wasn't new but it's in great shape! Keep looking, you'll find one much cheaper!

I had issues in my 2010 with those cables stretching.. havent had that issue on my 2013 at all but it has the premium top..

the door surrounds are different 2010+ as well to accomodate the different top so make sure the door surrounds you get with any top you buy are for the correct year as well..

the loaded top assist that was mentioned is only on the 4 door JK, it does not exist for the 2 door.

I have the premium top and it is definitely a lot nicer.. my jeep is little over 2 years old and my top is still very tight and quiet when I close it up... usually after 2 years id start noticing the top beginning to stretch out a bit...

Maybe if it was brand new in the box, not 7 years old, and offered to help install it...

Find them on Craiglist for ~$500 used and missing some parts or ~$800 for brand new (2012+) never used all parts.
