2010 jk auto transmission fluid
My jeep has 65,000 miles and I check the atf fluid and it had a dark black tint to it. I decided to change it. When I pulled the pan off the inside had some areas that looked like a black coating had bubbled and flaked off. Is there a coating on the pan? Or did something burn and plate to it?

My transmission pan had paint on most of the inside.
Yours looks to me like the fluid ate some of the paint off.
Could be from high temperature. Could be just poor prep before painting.
I would change the fluid again in the not too distant future.
Need some ideas on reinstalling the three bolts over the exhaust crossover?

I used these Allen head bolts from Lowe's. Take an OEM bolt in for a sample. If they don't have the exact length, get longer ones and cut them off. Dress the ends so they will thread into the hole without damaging the threads.
Also from Lowe's, I got a set of ball-end Allen wrenches. They make it so you don't have to get a straight shot at the threaded bolt hole.
When you remove the filter, make sure the o-ring comes out with it.

Had the same thing in my pan.
Didn't want to reinstall it like that, so I had it sandblasted.
I had experienced the hotoil-message twice and immediatly stopped to let the trans cool down.
Checked the fluid both times and it was good.
Then recently the pan started to leak while I drove up a mountain road. Got no hotoil-message this time, but the bad shifting from hot oil. Checked the oil and it was brown.
I have now changed the oil and filter and have an auxilliary trans cooler waiting to be installed.
I also plan to do another pan drop mid December.
