2012 jk oil filter spring/broken plastic piece?
So I just went to change my oil and filter and when I pulled off the old filter/cap a small plastic piece fell out. then I noticed in the top part of the tube in the oil filter housing that there was a spring and another piece if plastic. I fished it out with a screwdriver and found that both plastic pieces went together and matched. So Ive been scouring the internet trying to find a replacement and haven't found any mention of it. Mopars parts breakdowns don't even show the tube. Anyone have experience with this? I'm assuming these parts work with the filters relief valve somehow. Oil is changed but I don't want to drive it till I figure this out! Please help!

My dad's broke on his 2011 grand. You have to buy the whole filter holder thingy (technical info lol) from the dealer. They told him it's all one piece but he was able to take apart that spring piece from new unit and swap it over to the old one. Took awhile to do it

Such cheap junk. After looking at it more, the spring seats in that tube and then the plastic piece sits on top of it. Normally snapping into the tube sides. It looks like its doing what its supposed to do without being snapped into the tube so I just left the smaller plastic piece off. With the spring's pressure, it cant move or fall off. Still wimpy cheap junk...

The plastic piece that broke is called the "filter bypass valve". I found this out AFTER I bought the whole sending unit, (as per Jeep). ADVANCED AUTO PARTS HAS IT FOR $26

Also, look at what it takes to replace the whole unit. It's an involved job, due to it's location UNDER the intake. I'm going to swap the tube, and keep the rest of the parts.
