Default 2012 Misfire Code at 71,000 mi.

Well, I got the dreaded P0302 (Misfire Cylinder #2) Check Engine Light yesterday.

This usually leads to left side head replacement. Funny thing is it only ticks for a second on start up. Once it's running it's smooth and quiet.

I thought I might have been been lucky at 71,000 miles.

Anybody else get that far?

Are there a lot of 2012's out there that haven't had head failure?

My 2012 JKU has over 59,000 miles. Still good as new. No codes. No ticks. I've even towed a 4,000 - 5,000 pound trailer for more than a combined total over 5,000 miles.

Well, I finally took it in on 6/11 and got it back on 6/18. Delays mostly 3 days for a head to come in. Dealer said they would only let a level 4 mechanic do the work.

They did a pressure test of the number two cylinder and it leaked down 40%. Note that Chrysler will allow 25%.

I was very nervous about having the engine opened up, but I think Rockwall Dodge did a nice job. It was painless other than the wait. The engine runs like new, maybe a little more low end power and mileage is back to normal.

They took care of a couple of recalls at the same time.

I still think I have more miles than anyone I ever heard of before the head problem showed up. I thought I was home free.

Default im @ 32,000

ticks but no code here yet . i guess if yours went 71 k mine could too well they cover us up to 150,000 so should be ok id imagine ? if its gonna code why dont they just recall them for god sakes fix them and be done with it, & Spare their reputation . They would get repeated sales that way but i dont think making people drive with noises ticking for up to 150 ,000 deserves a repeated sale . I feel this only turns people off from buying another

its typical business.. not every one of them will break, by changing it out on warranty they only pay for the ones that do break and scare the customers that do have issues away POSSIBLY from another sale..

send out a recall that the engine needs major work and you will scare people away for sure that would be afraid it was a junk engine and never buy again..

many people dont listen to their engines, they drive, if the MIL lights up they take it in... otherwise they just drive till they sell, or trade, or jeep forever the vehicle...

chrysler went about it the right business way... if it breaks fix it for free... unlike toyota scion a few years ago that knew they had an issue and said "sorry you are SOL"
