Default 4x4 shifter Loose How to fix

Ok need help with a friends jeep 4x4 shifter. She said she was going to work and was hearing a grinding noise so she turn back home and park her jeep. The next thing she knows the 4x4 shifter is really loose. She has a 2 door JK. Any input anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

The shifter is connected to the cable with a plastic snap on bushing. Then the same bushing is used at the transfer case connection. These bushings degrade with age and eventually just disintegrate. This causes the shifter cable to come loose on one end or both ends and will result in the shift lever flopping around. Most JK jeepers will keep a spare set in the glove box. Bottom one on t-case is not hard to get to but upper one inside console is tougher. Sorry I can't give you the part number right now without heading out to garage. Do a search on Morris 4x4 center web site and you will find it. About $6-8 each. Quick tip, I found it easier to insert in cable ends first then snapping over post.
