I wish we knew the absolute true cause of the problem. I have over 40k on my 2012 JKU. I have had zero problems with it except for the slow clock which I had them fix. I bought the lifetime warranty which takes away most of my worry about the tick. Hopefully Chrysler will at least extend the warranty for the head issue. Mini did this for my wife's Mini Cooper. There was a rash of power steering pump failures and they cost over $1000 to replace. Mini ignored the problem for a few years. Mine went bad and I replaced it myself with a $700 OEM pump. Then just last spring they sent a letter saying they were increasing the warranty on the pump to 150,000 miles due to many complaints. I sent the the receipt for the pump I bought and they reimbursed that money to me.

Our started around 15k, went for a few weeks before the cel came on.
I can tell you from way too much experience though, that both the dealers and Chrysler corporate go by the theory of no light no problem. Even with drivability issues we have been told unless there is a light there is nothing wrong and they wouldn't know how to fix it.

Does anyone know the OBD2 codes that are primarily being thrown to indicate the head issue?
- P0300
- any others?

19,500 miles on my 2013 and its still ticking like crazy on the driver side!!

sounds like a bad exhaust leak but theres no exhaust leak to be found, been ticking since 1300 miles.

dealer replaced the lifters on the driver side and that had no effect on the noise...

going in for my 20k oil change here soon and will be making another complaint, its only been into the dealer 7 times since 1300 miles for this issue...

i'm thinking that this noise is something more serious and that this damn engine is likely eating itself because this noise is only getting louder

need to just start saving for a 5.7vvt swap and forget about this damn 3.6...

My 2012 JKSU is in the shop now. It has had the P0302 code triggered everyday for the last two months waiting on heads. I reset it with my Solus scanner. Then dropped it off yesterday because the heads are available. NOW THE GASKETS ARE ON BACK ORDER!?!!!!! I'm kinda pissed. They asked is it "running ok?" Haha. I told them nope. Runs like a john Deere. Sounds like a tractor too. I told them with this much trouble and metal shaving in the motor from bad lifter bores they might just need to put a new motor in it. And then no gaskets would be needed. Haha.

my 2014 makes this noise, has since the day I got it. I thought it was an exhaust leak, now I am concerned. Going to have to bring it into the dealer and have it looked at.
