Default Blew a caliper

Howdy!

Blew a caliper out today. Jeep continued to brake with nearly no fluid. Wheel is sloughed with brake fluid. Just want to make sure I"m diagnosing this correctly. anyone care to chime in? I've already ordered a new caliper. Check out the pic.Click image for larger version

It looks to me like it's fanning out from the brake line attachment...

If it were leaking from the banjo bolt there wouldn't be as much brake fluid on the upper caliper slider nor to the right side of it. It would be wet around the bottom and leak into the ground. Looks like the piston blew in it.

I'm guessing you didn't blow out the Piston. I blew out a piston where lucky I was home in my drive-way when it happened. When you blow out a Piston, you have NO front brakes because all the brake fluid just comes gushing out from where the piston used to be.

You just have rear brakes, which I learned when trying to drive a mile to an auto-parts store, just don't work hardly at all for braking.

It looks more like you have a leak from around the Banjo bolt. You would still have brakes for awhile, just not as solid. There's a washer between the Banjo bolt and the caliper, maybe the bolt loosened, got stripped or that washer got damaged.

Just pull off your wheel and remove the 2 bolts to take off the caliper. It will be real obvious to tell if it's leaking from the piston or not.

I ordered a new caliper, haven't pulled the wheel yet to verify, will do that tonight or tomorrow. I'll let you guys know what I found. I'm hobbling it around to and from work today.

This is stupidly dangerous. It is not worth risking your life, or the lives of those around you.

So what was the outcome? Banjo bolt or was it actually the caliper?

I forgot to take pics, but the piston was shattered. It was gnarly. New caliper is in with extended lines so I'm ready to go when I get my lift later this year.
