Code P0420?
Check engine light came on yesterday. Had it pulled at advanced auto and it showed p0420. Looks to be an o2 sensor. Has anyone else had this problem and was fixing it just a simple sensor replacement?

Cats are covered under federal emissions warranty for 8yrs/80,000 miles.
Does your engine consume oil? That can kill the cat.

From the 07 Service manual.
Possible Causes
EXHAUST LEAK
ENGINE MECHANICAL
AGING O2 SENSOR
CATALYTIC CONVERTER
Not in that order. You can try replacing the o2 sensor first and see if that clears the code. (more than likely it will). Otherwise, further investigation of the exhaust system will be needed.
Hope that helps

There is no engine noise, no excessive exhaust, no burnt oil smell.
Gas mileage is great compared to my old TJ. Plenty of power under acceleration.
I put a can of sea foam in the tank and changed both O2 sensors on the passenger side. So far I have been 100 miles without the CEL coming on.
How long would it take to trigger a code?

Just make sure if your replacing an oxygen sensor you get one from Chrysler. The after market sensors have a poor track record when it comes to working on the jeep. The first sensor I replaced with a Bosch sensor and it through a code again after about a week and the second sensor would not run at all. All was well when I replace it a factory part. The cat usually just has a ceramic core with a lot of small holes in it that get plugged up. If it is not to bad you can run some cleaner in about a half a tank of gas running for about half an hour above 2000 rpm.
