Default compass unit orientation?

The compass is attached to the under side of the upper dash piece.
Can somebody tell me if the wiring pigtail is supposed to face the driver side or passenger side when it is installed? I forgot to notice when I took it off.
Thanks.

The service manual shows it on the driver's side.

well I don't remember . but I do know if you put a cell phone on top of it it will screw the compass up big time until you move it(the phone).

Interestingly enough I just installed the Daystar dash panel yesterday and I can tell you from experience the wiring slot faces towards the driver's side and the sticker on the unit faces down (when the dash panel is installed).

Otherwise the compass only reads SW. Trust me on this!!

Wow I'm having the same issue after the Daystar install. I wonder if I reinstalled the compass wrong??? I've done the recalibration "drive in circles" routine several times the and compass still has no idea which way I'm pointing

This is exactly the reason I asked this question. I have the daystar panel and my compass doesnt work properly. I've tried removing everything from the tray and driving in circles, still won't work right.

Finally other people with the same problem, I have had this problem for about a month and everybody i have talked to has given me a puzzled look.
I didnt know that the compass was under the dash piece but now it makes sense because when I put the daystar piece in that is about the same time i started having troubles myself.

I always have my cell phone on top of it, so now I am going to stop doing that and see what that does.
