Do you have soft top regrets
#11
I have two JKs both came with a hard and soft top. Over the winter we sold both hard tops and only run the soft ones. The soft tops have come a long way over the generations. My wife's Jeep has the normal fabric and my Jeep has the twill fabric. I will say that the twill is the bee's knees. It cleans better, is quieter, and looks better. When I replace the wife's top I am likely going to get twill for hers.

I was hoping Some of the twill guys would speak up! I sold my hard top for the same reasons: nowhere to store it, it's super easy to take off but you need a few people and there's no promise for a clear day here in sc (it always rain late afternoon). The new soft tops are extremely quiet and easy to work with. Don't buy some cheap pos off of craigslist bc then you'll just regret it later. Spend the money and get a new-newer top and then try not to sell the hardtop before winter comes around. And if you want to be able to get the top off and on in a relatively feasible amount of time, leave the trek top out, it takes a while to put the thing back on after you've taken it off.

I've had my 2nd jeep close to a month now 2012 4dr Sahara. 2nd week sold the hard top and bought a soft top (NX) haven't looked back. I live in socal (San Diego) area so I wasn't worried about snow. Most of the year it's fairly warm. I live 12 miles inland from the coast. In the summer it gets to around 85-90 so having the luxury of easily removing the top was something I really considered.

I have both tops. Where I'm located, I couldn't imagine not having a hardtop. Sure, plenty of people in my area only have softops, but when it's -30 outside it sure is nice having the hard top with real windows. Not to mention when it's cold out dealing with a plastic window and zippers To put things in the cargo area could be a real chore

Another plus for a hard top is if you want to install any kind of cargo rack etc. IMO they look better on a hard top and can attach right to it. You don't need it to attach to the frame.

I've had a hard top and a soft top, but at separate times. I'd really like to have both. If I had to choose just one (which I do for now), I'd go with the soft top. Sure, they're noisier, leak prone and less secure, but I LOVE going topless and doorless whenever possible. Unfortunately, the weather in my location is unpredictable, and I have to be able to put the top back up on short notice.
*Edit- What I REALLY want is a better convertible design.

I have the sunrider soft top on my 15 JK and this is my 4th jeep and had both tops. I prefer the Soft top and have had the sunrider open 3x in the last 2 weeks here in NJ. I just prefer it as I can lower it in 3mins and let the sun shine on
I have the upgraded one and the water just rolls off of it. It's the Best one I've owned since my 83 CJ
