I'm mostly stock with a 3.8...3.21s. I occasionally tow my 5x8 with a SCAG mower..probably 1500 lbs or so and it does fine. Wouldn't want to go cross country but up to 30 miles or so I don't mind at all. Using my little Mazda to tow in this pic but you can see the load I'm referring to..

Thanks for the feedback.
Are there any potential warranty issues if I tow with a non-tow package jeep? I have the extended 80k mopar warranty. does towing impact warranty coverage in any way that you're aware of?

If you stay within the rated limits they would have no basis to give you warranty problems. 2dr has 2K limit regardless of having factory tow package or not.

I've got a 2007 (3.8) totally stock* and the bigger Harbor Freight trailer. I used it to remodel 1400sqft this Summer at 7000+ft elevation and it worked fine. At 1000+ pounds of load (plus trailer) you can feel it in all ways up, down, and around, but no problems ... But I'm smart when I tow.
I yanked half a ton or more from Denver to Steamboat: 11000ft elev tunnel, multiple trips from Steamboat back to Silverthorne for more bits, and a couple trips to Vail. At altitude and loaded, you'll want to plan to pull over A LOT, and learn to live looking at the back of a reefer at 25.
* as the 3rd owner I have no clue what gear is in it but hopefully this Summer I have time to play with it finally and find that out as I put on more parts.

I have a '13 stock Rubicon 2-DR and tow a 5x8 with no problems. This past summer I had it loaded as high as the loading gate the entire trailer, (probably 1 1/2'-2' above the rails). Household stuff. I probably used 75' of rope tying everything down. I went down the freeway at 60-65 mph and felt totally safe and under control.

I have a 14 jku and my mercury mountaineer broke down about 2 hrs away from home and I rented a 18' trailer and it did fine other than being over loaded for the jeep capabilities. I just drove about 50mph didn't have any issues. Just wondered if it was bad to leave it in drive while towing that much weight so I manual shifted all the way. Is there a over drive on this tranny?

This past Spring I moved a lot of household goods using one of the HF trailers. The trailer probably had 500-700 lbs on each trip; the '11 JK 3.8L auto w/3.73 gears (2dr soft top) handled the numerous trips just fine. As others have posted... take the Overdrive off while towing and I would suggest not driving in the fast lane. Make sure you give yourself plenty of room for braking with the added trailer weight.
