Because they go by a book that tells them a diff oil change takes 1.25 hours. The book doesn't account for a drian plug.

Stupid question, if you find a nice local shop who charges fair rates, in order to keep your warrant valid does that shop have to be sae approved etc?

I'm the one whose always worried about voiding the warranty...

As for the warranty, my dealer told me I can do the work myself just keep a journal of the dates and save the receipts. I plan to do my diffs this week. I am going to use synthetic as jeep recommends for towing. Should cost less than $50 in fluids. 2 qts rear and 1 qt front. Because there are drain plugs will be easier to do than changing the regular oil. I purchased a vehicle maintenance log book that I keep in the glove compartment.

I did mine at 9k, I wheel in sand and water so I will probably do it at least once a year maybe more. I use "acar" the android app to keep track of maintenance. Its super easy.

I just changed my front and rear diff fluids today. Was simple. I'm not sure if I should put anything one the threads before reinserting the plugs.

Do it yourself, you'll end up saving a lot of time and money. If this is your first time doing this you will be done in 30minutes not long at all.

I did mine already. I go into some water and when I checked it it was dirty. I did it in less than one hour. I opened the diferential and cleaned it with break cleaner. Also had some brake caliper paint around and had some fun with the cover... I followed the project-jk write up.

Hey 305jk,

What did you clean the cover with before painting. It looks great.

$338, I don't think I could have stopped laughing until I was 1/2 way home.

I should say 15,000 miles was the Schedule B or heavy use interval for diffs in the 2007 manual, and the 2008 manual there is no Schedule A and B, it's just every 18,000 inspect, replace if used for towing and/or off road use.

Also, I'm not the most comfortable person with a wrench in my hand, and I'm going to tackle this on my own.
The 2008 maual does state to replace at 60,000 miles
