I've been a jeep fan for many years although this is the first wrangler I've owned, I've always had CJs. I got this 08 jk new and we have issues with the top leaking, the engine burns oil,the trans pops out if gear, the rear end is worn out and now the cruise just quit working, not to mention the seat belts fraying, and it hasn't even hit 70,000 on the clock yet. I think I'll stick to my CJs..

If it makes you feel any better my '08 JK burns 1qt or less per 5,000 miles.

Mine is fine. It burns about a half a quart every couple thousand miles. And it's an 08 with 84000 miles. The only problem I have is with it jumping out of first.

What problems do you have? What do your plugs look like? Picture of plugs?

I won't have a chance to do an oil consumption test, but I can check oil level and pull a plug.

Thanks for your help!

They'll be black and sooty looking and probably slick with oil, and if enough oil is entering the combustion chamber they may have peeling black carbon deposits on the electrodes. Healthy plugs look dry and are just dusted with a greyish brown coating (not to be confused with plugs that are burnt white or very light grey which is a sign of a motor running too lean & hot).

Used to be you might tell by running a finger around the exhaust pipe outlet if it burned oil bad. That may no longer be true with cat converters though, not sure.

If they are smart enough to fill the oil and put fresh plugs in, might be hard to tell.

It's an 07. By the way the tailpipe is clean so apparently not all oil consuming motors have soot buildup in the pipe

Ya, thinking the cats might eat up the oil, until they fail.
