That's strange, I have a set if rubi tires and wheels and they are a c load.

E load tires are totally overkill on a jeep.. They will cost more and give a rougher ride.

Strange. My 10A, 265/70R17 KM2 take offs are Es, as are the 255/75R17 KMs on the neighbors COD. A tow package thing, perhaps? JKU vs JK thing?

I'd recommend that the OP look at Toyo, Cooper, and Nitto, who all have several different tread styles in an E rated tire that would be suitable for your needs. Also, the LT265/70R17E is a factory Jeep size, used on the 10AM and I think the X.
the stock BFG's I removed were C range tires. Odd.......

D range is more than enough pulling a "heavy trailer". Consider this, E range tires are designed for the weight of full size pick up trucks with 10,000+ lbs towing capacity where the tongue weight will get as high as 1,000lbs.

D range is plenty of load rating. Like I said in my previous post, I had D range Nitto Terra's on my Land Rover that outweighed my modded JKUR and pulled a trailer loaded to 5,000 lbs. The tires never failed me under those conditions. Even over a twice yearly 2800 mile round trip. Had those tires on that rig for nearly 65k miles, on a heavy, full time 4x4.

You all now have me wondering what makes Jeep fit different load ranges at the factory.

I don't see that sized tire offered from the factory? 255/75 R17 is what Jeeps website shows. It might be those special editions have a slightly larger size that is only made in the E rating? Like I said before C rated are plenty of tire for towing with the jeep and if you are over 3500 lbs on the trailer you should be concerned about the hitch as it is only a class 2 rated for 3500lbs and 350lb tongue weight. A stock F-150 has a P235/75/R17 tire and is rated to tow 8800lbs. It is a C rated tire with a capacity of 2050lbs

Looks like the BFG AT KO is very high at 3195, running at 80psi, though they didn't list the exact size.
I ran the duratracs on my two door jk they road great and handle towing a two axel dump trailer great. Plus they had 50,000 miles on them when I traded it for my 4 door and still passed inspection.

I upgraded my bumper to the smittybilt xrc which is rated for 5000 pound tow, 500 pound tongue weight. I love it and recently towed a 5000 pound trailer from NJ to Virginia and back with no issues. Thanks for your replies! I'm getting some good info from you.
