Took a couple of pics so you could see how I use the extensions. The second mount I use for a GPS when traveling but it's not in the pics...well...because I'm not traveling right now.

If you have the factory Navigation system; placing a magnetic mount in the proximity of the upper dashboard tray may disrupt the accuracy of the factory GPS antenna which is located beneath that tray.

Landscape which is great for using as navigation. Look for infiniApps slyde cd slot phone holder on Amazon. It's a great product.

For 2010 and older, you're right. But for 2011 and newer, the GPS and XM antennas are combined into a single unit that's located on the sound bar above the passenger's head.

Now if you're talking about the vehicle compass, then you've got a good point. All JKs have it located directly above the radio.

Won't help the OP, but it might help someone else. Crank windows and 2 pieces of industrial grade velcro. Total cost: $2

Someone sent me a private message but when I logged in to reply it disappeared. Can't remember who it was.
But to answer your question, the iphone 6 plus is JUST bigger by .10 inches tall. My one plus one JUST fits in the mount. I eventually added some rubber around the ball of the daytech mount to make it 1 inch instead of 2/3 inches. Added a Ram mount 3' extension and Ram mount xgrip
