Default New engine needed please give advice, I NEED IT TO GET TO WORK.

Please advise me I need my jeep to get to work and don't know what to do.
I own an 08 JK 4D and have a nasty lifter tick and burning oil like crazy, I am pretty sure I need a new engine, I have no experience and will have to rely on an auto shop to do the work.
What are my best options?
Do I get another 3.8?
Is there another engine that will fit?
The shop offered to replace the engine with an OEM for about $5400 but I don't want another oil burning engine, can I do better than an engine straight form the jeep dealer?
I am not looking for a high HP swap but I would be ok with different engine, even a V8 if its affordable for my broke ass.

I would get a couple of quotes on OEM (New or used) engine replacements with at least a 6 month guarantee. If you need $$ more than you love the Jeep, then spend the $$ to replace the engine and sell the Jeep after it's fixed and buy a less expensive car with your profits.
Also check craigslist. A few months ago I had a Mini Cooper that blew an engine. I found a guy who supplied the used motor, installed it, and gave me a 6 month warranty all for a total of $1500.

505 performance offers a replacement motor with more HP for a decent price. I think it was $3800 the last time I looked. You'll certainly spend that on a factory motor.

Anything other than a factory engine will cost more money. If you know nothing about engines, how do you know what's wrong with it ? Maybe it needs an adjustment or just a top end.

If you're the original owner? The 08 has a life time warranty.

I feel your pain. I'm on my second engine in my 08 as well. Your cheapest option is the 3.8, and it will likely burn oil just like your last one.

I owned a 08 with oil burning issues, traded it not so much for the oil issue it was the lack of power. I purchased a 012 no oil issues, traded that for 016 JKU also no oil issues.

Yeah, if I didn't love my Jeep so much, I would have sold it already. I guess if the engine goes out again, I'm getting a v8.
