Default Winch advice for a newbie

Need advice on a size of winch
I will probably have to pull my friends trucks out at one point , so I want a big enough winch to do so. I can get a 8000lbs warm winch for pretty cheap , but I don't wanna regret it soo any advice on what size I should get , or will an 8000 work ?

Really a matter of preference.... I mean, rule of thumb is to cover double the weight of your rig. If you are pulling other trucks/jeeps out, their weight might vary obviously.... I have a 8k winch along with a heafty tow strap for backup incase. 8-10k is adequate for me, anything more makes me think "I shouldn't have been doing this in the first place!" haha

Everyone has their own opinion though....or preference I should say.... cause ya know, opinions are like assholes.....everyones got one!

You can also run a snatch block which will give you a 2:1 mechanical advantage - basically double the pulling power of your winch - but it does cut your line in half, so if you can't get close, that could be a problem.

if youre pulling your friends DIESEL pickup trucks out your gonna want something NORTH of 10k at a minimum.
my f350 crewcab long bed diesel 4x4 tips the scales just north of 8500 lbs (w/ nothing in it but FUEL) !

With a 4 door, you'll be pushing 5000 lbs of vehicle when loaded. Rule of thumb as stated is at least twice your vehicle weight. I went with a 10k winch with a synthetic line, and that's what I'd recommend.
