I've heard of some people removing all of the plastic and painting it with black spray paint. Is this a good or bad idea? What is the best kind of paint to use? Do I need to prime everything before painting it?

Also, is it difficult to remove some of the trim, like the door handles and mirror brackets? What about the fender flares?

Thanks for the advice!
Go to the auto parts store and buy black bumper paint, don't even take stuff off just mask everything Really well. I did it on my Cherokee and they looked great for years, never faded

I applied Penetrol this weekend - just wiped it on with a rag. My fenders are now black again ... waiting to see how long it lasts .....

X3 on 303. I use it on all the plastic trim, dash too. Used properly, it doesn't run in the rain.

I used the Krylon Fusion Satin Black on my TJ. They turned out great, looked better than new one's. Plus it was an inexpensive and permanent fix.

I used white all purpose primer on all my faded fenders and accents. I then painted everything with black spray can bed liner. It came out awesome. Nice texture. I've tried everything and this was the solution.

It's like Armor All. Seems to be a little longer lasting but by no way is it permanent. It also can be very difficult to remove if painting is in your future.

The 303 product cost under $10. for a small spray bottle.

Tough to paint coarse plastic. I used back to black on my old '07 and it made my fenders look brand new. Best stuff I've used for sure.
