The light will go out after some number of runs with no problems detected. The number of runs varies with different systems.
Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes will turn it off, too. If it come back on, there is a problem.

Even if your light does go out, the code will be stored in the computer. Take it to an autozone or an advance auto. I'm pretty sure they'll check and clear it for free, and tell you what the code is. They also sell code reader/clearers for pretty cheap, they come in handy.

Seems to me if you pull the code using the ignition key, then pull the battery cable for about 20 minutes or so, that should clear the code from memory. At least it did for me, or the dealership was lying to me when they said they found no codes active.

If I remember correctly, it goes like this:

1. Turn the ignition on, but don't start the engine.
2. Press the gas pedal to the floor quickly and back all the way up three times.
3. Turn the ignition off, but leave the key in.
4. Start the engine.

^ that is the reset procedure for the Oil Change Indicator. Can't say if it resets a check engine light.

Once you pass GO and collect your $200 - that will RESET your oil change indication.
