3.21 gears
Quick Background:
I recently bought a Rubicon Unlimited.... I love it and the wife loves it. She has a Jeep Patriot and we use it as a road trip car (about 26-30mpg's). However, she wants a 2 door JK now.
Question:
Will the 3.21 transmission run okay and still get good mpg's with my Rubicon take-offs, 32'' BGF Mud-terrains? Her JK will be a pavement princess, vary rarely takin off-road and covered in her favorite stuff CHROME.

well it depends, manual or auto? manual you are going to be able to shift when needed, so its alot easier to deal with than an auto with 3.21... I have 4.10 on my 2 door with 33 inch tires, and I feel the rpms and power are just right. Look for an 07 that came with 4.10. i belive they stoped making 4.10 in non rubi jk's in 08.
But then again if its only going to be a princess jk then she might be fine with the rubi 32" tires and 3.21 gears.

I got rubicon take-offs on my 2 door sport auto 2010 JK and I get pretty bad gas mileage. 13.5 and im about 90% +- 5% City and about 10%freeway.
PS: try and get a good deal on a 2010 because 2011 are worse

you have an automatic, so the 3.21 will not be great. they dont even sell auto's with 3.21 gears anymore. A/T bumps it to 3.73.
32" is a stock tire tho, so you'd be fine really. just wouldnt be the fastest thing in the world..

After some more research, and a few post, I see that Jeep no longer produces an auto 3.21. She will insist on an auto, so I guess its 3.73 for her. Thanks for the replys!

With the 32" mud t/a's you will be fine. I put those tires on my son's X w/auto. He does complain a bit about gas mileage but that is because his last vehicle was a Civic. Besides ... I am the one paying for his gas.
