Threw a new code P0513 Invalid Skim Key
2011 JKU with keyless entry
Have a viper alarm system with remote starter for about a year now.
Today this code pops up
P0513
(Sentry Key Imobilizer Module)
Any help on what this means?
Thanks
Steve

The DTC is indicating the chip programming in the key does not match the immobilizer. Does this code appear when using your other factory key? IF it does; the Immobilizer Module may be going bad.

P 0513 code stored.
2007 Jeep Wrangler. Regular key, not keyless entry. I've having occasional starting problems. Vehicle sometimes cranks fine for about one second, then quits cranking before the engine has started.
Most of the time, the engine starts. When it doesn't, pressing the accelerator a bit revs up the engine during start and starting works. Starting usually fails when the vehicle has been stopped for about 5 minutes. A long shutdown (half an hour), no problem. Just turning the engine off and on without removing the key, no problem. Original factory key. Original owner.
There's a P0513 code stored, as shown above. That's the only code stored. No engine check light.
This sounds like the invalid skim key failure, but if I can get past this by pressing the accelerator, it's not much of a security feature. Do keys (not fobs) have an internal battery with a limited life? This key is 11 years old.
