Angry Threw a Rod. Replace engine or bail out?

So I threw a rod last night and blew my engine on my 2008 JK with only 53000 miles.

Dealer says $7000 for a new motor. Even if I can get it done for only $5000, it's a lot to put into an '08.

What would you guys do?

Do you like the jeep? I'm at 120k and I'd spring for a new motor. The v8 would be great but $5k is easier to find than $8k+.

I'd check the junkyards aka recycling centers for a used engine. If you are real nervous about it, take off the pan and look at some bearings.

Yes, original owner. I'll check around to see what a "preowned" motor goes for.

I thought 08's got a lifetime power train warranty?

Any idea why it threw a con rod? I'd first look in the wrecking yards for a used engine a as well.

Dealer is saying it ran low on oil, but I know that's not the case. Not sure if that gets them out of any possible warranty or how I would prove otherwise.

Pretty low mileage. I would just have it rebuilt with premium components as long as everything mic'd out ok.

Your Jeep has a lifetime powertrain warranty provided you did the 5 year inspection.

If that doesn't work out check into shops that do JK Hemi or diesel engine swaps. They always have engines laying around.
