Default Towing stuff

I am not a vehicle guy by any means. A ticking watch, broken computer, a blinking vcr, im your man.

With that said.

I have a stock 2013 Jeep wrangler Sahara.

Never pulled a dam thing in my life, except my own weight.

SO....How much can I pull, how do I figure it out.

Not even sure I have the tow package.....

I have a 2012 JKU with Max tow package. I've towed 5000 pounds, but you're only supposed to tow 3500 with the 4-door. Lots of towing threads. Jku's are artificially low. Whatever you do, be safe. I use weight distribution hitch and my trailer has dual axle brakes.

You must remember throwing a couple 45s on the Victrola, then.

Hey guys,

How do I find out if I have the tow package?
and how do I find out what gear ratio I have?

I can dig up the paperwork over the next several days I am sure it would be on there, but baring that....is there any way?

I do have a hitch on my jeep. And I snapped pictures of the door sill stuff with my iphone.

I show maximum weight of passengers and cargo for the jeep itself 850 pounds, from my door sill.
I show GVWR at 5500 pounds, Will be working on the calculations today.

Do you have 2 door or 4 door? Do a search o how to tell what gear you have. It involves jacking up the back of your jeep and counting the # of rotations of the drive shaft when you rotate the wheels.

Rob,

I have a 4 door.

So what your saying is that it would be quicker for me to find the paperwork hahaha.

Ok, so Im digging. Got out my owners manual like a n00b! Learning is living!
Here is what I have come up with so far. Just need to hammer down the gear ratio!

We own a 4 door sahara, so all numbers will be reflected as such.
All below numbers pulled from my owners manual + door sill, except "AVW"

1. GVWR 5500
2. GTWR Gross Trailer Wt 3.21 2,000 lbs 3.73 3,500 lbs
3. GCWR 3.21 6,768 and 3.73 8,268 pounds respectively.
4. MTW 3.21 is 200 lbs, 3.73 is 350 lbs
5. AVW (Passengers 245, Cargo 300, +200 for safety? = 745 pounds + FAT JEEP = OMG) "the door sill says 850 pounds max cargo+passengers hehe"
6. MFA is 32 for both axle types.

I am looking at a utility trailer 8x5 or something similar, in theory.
350/11% = 3,181

OH I should mention, I will be crossing the border from Canada to the USA, so this has to be right or they may rip me a new butt.
