Default What oil are you using 3.8L?

I have 2011 2 door sport 3.8L just under 50k. No modification other then 33in tires with no lift. DD light off-road. I've been using the recommended 5w20 and using full synthetic. I do notice the engine burns a little approximately 1.5 to 2 quarts between oil changes. Just looking for some recommendations or opinions on oil brands and weights. Thanks in advance

5w-30 synthetic here every 10k miles and I'm at 130k on the clock. I was doing 3k changes up until 70k miles and basically- the interval was too frequent for me to do. I've got very minimal burn and I've thought about bumping to 5w-40 to see what happens but I'm not quite ready to make the jump.

I switched to 10w30, but I live in a hot desert climate. I was still burning oil until I changed out my PCV valve. Once I did that, I no longer burn oil. Pretty simple fix and the part only cost about $20.00. This is in a 2007.

176K miles on my 2007. Does not burn oil--I can go 8-9K miles before I need a quart. I did run it on dino 5W-20 for the first 5K miles before switching to full synth--switching to full synth too early is a prescription for burning engine oil for the life of the engine (I know some will argue this, but they are wrong according to oil engineers who were interviewed by Tom Sheppard when he wrote Vehicle Dependent Expedition Guide). At about 130K miles I switched to 5W-30 full synth, mostly because of the age of the engine.

I will agree but yet disagree with the above post. Running full synthetics out of the box will triple ring break in. But saying it will cause burning oil for the life of the motor is false. Engineers look at paper numbers and not real life results. Normal engine break in is around 5k on regular oil. The only real way to tell is to track your wear metals thru oil analysis. Once your numbers stabilize you know your rings and bearing have set in. I change over all my vehicles between 5k and 10k but i draw oil samples every 4k before and every 12k after. Best way to care for your engine is knowing what is going on with your oil. It is only 30$ to test. I use "oil analyzers" thru amsoil. You can PM me if you want info.

Used regular 5 20 util 120 k km, started burning around 1 qt per change at around 60k km.
Did the switch to 5 20 synthetic my burning got bad around 2 to 3 qt per oil change so I switch to 5 30 burning went down between 1 to 2 qt.
Im now at 150k km and my last oil change I added a dash of Lucas synthetic oil treatment. So far I add 1/2 qt and I'm around 3k km done of my normal 5k period.
I see how things go but maybe I'll try 10 40 as the Lucas thing is good but the proportion can be problematic and it can take a couple days of usage before it get properly mix with the oil.
